I would like to share here one of the last webminars about Asian women photographers. This panel presentation featured photographers from Central and South Asia who are participating in the Asian Women Photographers at the Angkor Photo Festival 2010.

These photographers are: Poulumi Basu (India) with ‘To Conquer Her Land’, her work on women soldiers in the Indian Army;
 Ying Ang (China) The Heartland
; Isabelle Eshraghi (Iran) Women of Isfahan, 10 years later 1996 – 2006; Mariam Amurvelashvili (Georgia) Prison;
 Ore Huiying (Singapore) We are farmers
; Mery Agakhanyan (Armenia) The life of peasants in Armenia.

They had one yesterday, about Asian women photographers (This panel presentation featured photographers from Central and South Asia who are participating in the Asian Women Photographers at the Angkor Photo Festival 2010).

They usually post the video on line few days after the webminar. So, as I do not think this is on Open-i website already, I am posting another one here.

This video is about “Photographing the personal”. This session featured work by photographers that have stayed close to home by documenting their own families, each using their cameras as tools to help them document and understand grief and illness, and their work is as much about them as about their family.

These photographers are Leonie Purchas (“In the Shadow of Things”), Philip Toledano (“Days with My Father”), Sohrab Hura (“Life is Elsewhere”), Briony Campbell (“The Dad Project”).

Ojo de pez, is a Documentary Photography magazine, edited every three months in English and Spanish version. There you can find featured work of international photographers, and an agenda with information about events, books and exhibitions.

Funds People is a community reference for professional investors in Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Latin America. Once a month they interview somebody in this sector in London, and include it in its magazine.

It has today unveiled a new look, a raft of new editorial sections and a come back to its monthly format after being a weekly magazine during more than 150 years.

The new version of British Journal of Photography will be on sale from the first Wednesday of every month, and it will cost £6.99.

I have been checking some of them on the internet, and rounding up 5 of my favorite web magazines.

- 1000 Words pairs cutting edge photos with photographer interviews and book reviews.

- Burn focuses on the work of emerging photographers. Most of the photo essays are presented as slideshows with audio, but we like hitting mute and seeing one photo at a time.

- UK-based Deep Sleep has an urban aesthetic. Each issue has a different theme: the first one is “invisible” (“alien” and “dance” are up next).

- International photography is the focus of Lens Culture. The magazine also sells limited-edition prints by featured photographers.

- French webmag Purpose looks and reads like the pages of a print magazine. There is very little text, and each issue has a broad theme like “memory” or “childhood”.
