Talking about technique, I liked the series call Faces, where photographs are ghostly lit and covered with marks and drip trails. She used old antique cameras and specially processed.

The Family and the Land is beautiful. This exhibition is controversial in its portrayals of children and death. I think some of the photos were intimate or provocative, but once I looked at them longer, I saw beauty and innocence. Sally Mann as a mother and these are her children captured those intimate moments between them. Like any mother, she was taking these photos as an homage to her children, a celebration of their shared features and perfection, and it was something they collaborated on.

What Reminds is also part of this exhibition. It was strangely beautiful. Again, its simple and natural - for Mann, when we die, we disappear and nothing is left but nature. Her we have another taboo, what she shows us is what really remains here. It seems that in New York it was a bit controversial, as they cancelled the exhibition at the last minute…

- City of god (This amazingly shot, epic movie tells the story of two friends who grow up in Rio de Janiero. One becoming a news photographer, while the other gets involved with some shady business.)
- Blow up (A fashion photographer has accidentally photographed a murder. He blow ups his photos to figure it all out)
- Memento (Guy Pearce plays Leonard, a guy who wakes up not knowing who he is or why he has a pocket full of photos. He uses a Polaroid 690 to keep track of his memories)
- Proof (A blind photographer feels he must take photos to prove that what people describe around him is the truth. Also stars a young Russell Crowe)
- The third man (A good old black&white movie. I opens a fully understanding about cinematography and give us a break from the pollution we sometimes get from Hollywood movies.)
- Rear window (Jimmy Stewart plays a photographer whose keen, observing ways get him wrapped up in a murder mystery)
- Amelie (This movie makes you want to spout off every silly French phrase we know. It also makes you want to take photos)
- Pecker (A young, unknown photographer finds fame after taking photos of his weirdo family and small-town folk.)

I spent few days last week in Madrid, so I had the chance to see a few exhibitions part of the festival. I found Harold Edgerton exhibition quite interesting. An inventor and an artist, pioneered the strobe flash, stop-action photography and a method of taking super-fast images called Rapatronic. These images allowed very early times in a nuclear explosion’s fireball growth to be recorded on film. The exposures were often as short as 10 nanoseconds, and each Rapatronic camera would take exactly one photograph.

If you are in Madrid between 9th June to 25th July , do not miss it. You will find Isabel Muñoz, Helen Levitt, Eustachy Kossakowski exhibitions among others.

Nikon has a couple great interactive tools that make very easy to explore lenses and compare them.

This is a lens simulator that lets you see what resulting photographs might look like with any lens and camera combination, while their new lens positioning map displays the NIKKOR lineup on a grid with aperture and focal length as the two axes.
